Overview
The U.S. Mission in Tanzania is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Senior Foreign Service National Investigator (Security Investigator) position within the Regional Security Office (RSO). This is a supervisory role overseeing the FSNI Unit and coordinating complex security programs in liaison with host government law enforcement and security entities.Security Clearance Required: Public Trust – Background Investigation

Position Summary
- Serve as RSO’s principal security advisor to the RSO and COM for complex security programs requiring host nation coordination.
- Supervise FSNI Unit and oversee investigations including background checks and sensitive cases.
- Facilitate protection of post personnel and visiting U.S. government officials.
- Manage host nation capacity building and emergency preparedness coordination.
- Plan and implement long-term security and law enforcement initiatives with host nation partners.
Qualifications
Education:- University Degree (B.S.) in law enforcement, criminology, or related field, or host country equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years as a professional investigator or special agent conducting complex, high-profile investigations (e.g., fraud or organized crime) requiring mastery of investigative techniques and knowledge of local legal procedures and host nation security agency structures.
- Level IV (Fluent) English – speaking, reading, writing, translation
- Level IV (Fluent) Kiswahili – speaking, reading, writing, translation
- Expert in investigative principles and techniques
- Knowledge of local and regional laws (marriage, divorce, adoption, military service)
- Familiarity with host government law enforcement/security structures
- Advanced knowledge of host country customs, protocols, and government entities
- Maintain extensive contacts within host country law enforcement and security agencies
- Conduct sensitive investigations with discretion
- Train and supervise investigative staff
- Draft reports and correspondence in English and Kiswahili
- Collect, analyze, and present data in various formats
- High integrity, sound judgment, adaptability, and discretion
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
